Support the Wild Salmon Caravan – 10th Anniversary!

The Wild Salmon Caravan is a grassroots social movement entering its 10th year of public arts and culture-based engagement centred on Indigenous Peoples’ food systems and wild salmon conservation. For thousands of years, wild salmon have been the most important Indigenous food, a cultural and ecological keystone species. Their well-being depends on the health and integrity of Indigenous food systems.

We are reaching out to ask for your solidarity and financial support to cover the costs of this year’s event, including:

  • Artist fees
  • Honoraria and travel expenses for cultural knowledge holders and speakers
  • Float building and art supplies
  • Equipment and food for participants

We welcome donations in any amount, ranging from $50 to $5,000, to help make this year’s Wild Salmon Caravan a success. The event will take place on September 28 & 29th in Chase, BC, Canada.

Led by the Working Group on Indigenous Food Sovereignty, the Wild Salmon Caravan was β€˜spawned’ from a strategic think tank in the Lakes Secwepemc territory to address the record-low numbers of wild salmon returning to their spawning grounds.

The theme for this year’s caravan is Indigenous Climate Justice: Ride the Quantum Wave, and we will host arts and culture workshops inspired by Indigenous worldviews and the quantum understanding that “we shape the world based on β€˜how’ we observe it.”

Your support will be gratefully received as an expression of solidarity in working alongside us and transforming the deep grief surrounding the industrial impacts on wild salmon during these social and environmental crises.

In gratitude and solidarity,
The Wild Salmon Caravan Team
